Expectations from Netflix

As much as we all love Netflix for its convenience and its handiness, there’s definitely a few areas where Netflix could potentially improve on ..Here is my view about it ..

Goals to Improvise :

1. To expand user base

2. More User Engagement

3.User retention

User groups :

1. User who knew what to watch
2. User who watch based on Recommendation
3. Users who rarely use Netflix
4. Users who watch based on titles

Here I would focus on user engagement goal and user group 2

Features that can be improvised :

1. Recommend to a friend : It would be amazing if I could send a recommendation to someone. For example, last month I found a reality show about cars that my brother definitely would like to watch, and instead of sharing it with him directly on Netflix I just wrote a message on WhatsApp saying that he needs to watch the show, but it would be nice to have this as feature in Netflix.
2. Social angle : Netflix doesn’t have any social features. Users cannot add friends, they cannot interact with others, and they don’t see any comments.The first suggestion would be to improve this. We all turn to our friends for movie recommendations, and it would be a natural fit to have a similar functionality on the platform. When people are looking for something to watch, seeing which friend has viewed a piece of content could aid the decision.
3. Filter content by language : Sometimes people wish to hear the film content without concentrating too much on subtitles , in that case it would be helpful if we could categorize/search movies based on language
4. Watch history : People tend to review from time to time what they watched before..To know the watch history , Users need to go to their account section, and on the website profile page, find Viewing activity.Instead of that users can be given the ability to view watch history from top navigation
5. Multiple playlists : Option to create more than one playlist to watch during lunch /sleep would help user watch films based on their mood

My prioritization :

Among the five improvement suggested , I would prioritize in the order

1 > 2 > 3 > 4 > 5

1 and 2 would definitely create more user engagement when compared to others . For instance during this pandemic , we spent most of the time in home watching movies/series ,we watched movies mostly on friend’s recommendation , so if we have a feature of recommended by friend or liked by friend and watching movie as group from their homes and chatting about it simultaneously would give different experience to user and would create more user engagement .

When compared to 2nd one , 1st is easier to implement and would have high impact on user engagement wheres 2nd is little bit tough to implement .So I would consider “Recommend to a friend” feature to be given for users.
